Single-phase transformers accept single-phase AC power and output single-phase AC power, typically at a higher or lower voltage level. Energy is transferred from one circuit to one or more circuits via electromagnetic induction. Open-circuit voltage is the difference of electrical potential between two terminals of a device when disconnected from any circuit. A short circuit is an abnormal connection between two nodes of an electric circuit intended to be at different voltages.
